ABOUT LOLA DEL FRESNO
Lola del Fresno was born in Madrid. She studied in the University of Fine Arts in Madrid. She exhibited in several galleries in Madrid, Bilbao and was part of Art Fairs like Estampa in Madrid, Korea and Art LA in Los Angeles. She moved to New York in 1997 and since then her work has been recognized internationally, showing in galleries in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Shanghai, Milan and New York.
Lola del Fresno is a visual artist whose projects involve large-scale mixed media installations with an active public component that involves the viewer as part of the project in the space. Her work is composed of mixed media pieces that include drawings, photography, paintings, and sculptures.
She has exhibited her work locally and internationally. Her large scale installations and paintings are housed in well-known private collections and museums.
Lola del Fresno has received several awards in Spain, including the first prize Gremios de Pintura in 1995, the Prize Adara in Avila, Spain in 2003 and the Prize Tentaciones - Estampa Art Fair with an installation entitled “Walking.”
Paper has been always Lola’s greatest love, primarily because of the connection to the feeling, texture and the immediacy of the medium. Over the years the vision of her work has been expanding and evolving towards large scale installations, partially in an attempt to engage a dialogue in a more direct way with the public. Lola likes to work on different mediums in one piece, and thus project videos over drawings or paintings, photography, and three-dimensional sculptures to offer a more profound and dynamic perspective.
“The work describes the constant battle of the senses, the tension inside. The duality that exists in our physical condition: spirit and material, perishable and eternal. The individual and the sense of individuality, appears and then disappears with the current loss of identity.” - Lola del Fresno
